Khanabad Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Named after the village of Khanabad, Fergana. Stratotype in the area of Mount Isfara, Fergana. The name of the suite was previously used for the territory of the Tajik Depression (155), subsequently, G.Kh.Salibaev and others identified the Kusan mountain for the territory of the Tajik Depression, uniting several suites (Tairsuy, Gulob, etc.) by age (186).
Synonym: Khanabadskaya Suite, Ханабадская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Green, greenish-gray, weakly carbonate clays with layers of sandstones and concretions of marls and limestones. Thickness: up to 65 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably overlies the Isfara Fm
Upper contact
Overlain by the Sumsar-Paleog Fm with slight erosion.
Regional extent
In the Prishashkent region, it corresponds to the middle and upper parts of the Apata Fm. Correlated together with the Isfara Fm with the Chegan Fm of the S. Pre-Aral. (160; 398; 444).

Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Nucula aralensis Luk., Pecten karadarjensis Korob., Astarte chanabadica Makar., Ostrea tianschanensis Rom., Cyprina alexeiwi Ovetsch., Cardita lukovichi Ruch., Aralocardia eichwaldiana Mica Ovetsch., Cultellus grignonensis Desh.; gastropods Turritella subangulata Brocc.; foraminifers - Bolivina antegressa Subb., Haplophragmoides pressus Min., Gaudryina manca Min., Eponides jacksonensis Curchm., Anomalina munda wachschica Davidz., Caucasina eocaenica Chal.; ostracods - Cytherella oraria Mand., Cythereidea khanabadensis Mand., Clytrocytheridea innae Mand. P.K.Makarov identifies layers: 1) with Cultellus grignonensis; 2) with Pecten karadarjensis-Ostrea tianschanensis; 3) with Astarte chanabadica and small turritellas.
